Maji Moto

Maji means water in Kiswahili and moto means warm (or hot), so Maji Moto is the name of a hot spring a few hours outside of Arusha in the African bush.

After some twists and turns today, Mommy found her way to maji moto so that Clara Shei and I could see the wonder of a true hot spring.  It's pretty cool.  There are really very few places that you can swim in water that is not in a swimming pool here in East Africa, due to the high risk of disease (nasty parasites are infecting most of the fresh water sources around).  Basically you either need to find a nice spot on the coast and dip your feet in the ocean, or find an oasis such as we have in the form of a hot spring.  You can feel in the pool where the water is coming out of the ground and is warm and bubbling up.  It was so fun to go in the water with Uncle Gogo.  Except Uncle Gogo kept insisting the lizards were biting him under the water.  I'm not exactly sure that this area of Tanzania is home to any water dragon lizards....but poor Uncle Gogo was insistent that he was being bitten.  ;-)  He's funny that Gogo!
